Sounds like the usual problem that Windows 95 has with faster processors.

Newer AMD K6-2 and Cyrix MII-333 make the problem surface.

There is a fix available from Microsoft, AMD and elsewhere, usually referred to as the "AMD K6-2/350 patch for W95".

    Regards, Peter

If you are using the Earlier releases of Win95, those prior to the version that offered "Support" for USB, then you need to install the Busmaster driver, PxII4 patch, and usb driver. Windows will not correctly identify and you will see the yellowed "!" next to the items in your device manager. Go to the web site of the mobo mfg. and download the current patches and drivers. The order of installation as a rule should be 1st) busmaster drvr, 2nd) the USB patch and 3rd)the patch for the PxII4 PCI bridge. Consult the mfg for this to ensure the order that they wish to have it done. They designed it they should be able to guide you as to how it should be configured. You may also want to consider going to WIN98 as it reconizes usb and the udma. If you are using WIN98, DO NOT TRY TO INSTALL THE PCI BRIDGE PATCHES. They were for Win95 and are not used with the WIN98 O/S. Be sure you have the most current bios update for the mobo and determine what the update supports and/or corrects. Some of the lower end boards they do not want you to upgrade the bios unless you having a specific problem that the update addresses.

    Nimrod,

the previous speaker wasn't quite right.

The USB supplement needs installation onto Windows 95 "B" only. You cannot install it on the original
W95, or W95 "A". The "C" release has it already. This enables installation of AGP video cards.

You do NOT install a "PIIX4 patch" onto the M577, since it does not have an Intel chipset. It's a VIA MVP3,
with VIA 586B south bridge, not PIIX4. Install the drivers for IDE, AGP, USB, and IRQ routing from www.via.com.tw,
and W95B w/USB supplement, or W95C will be happy with the board. Earlier W95 are useless with AGP enabled boards.

You still need MS's patch for fast processors, though.

    Hope that helps - Peter
