    Celeron Bus Speed

    I just purchased an Abit BX6-2 motherboard, 400 Celleron, 64 meg PC100 memory. I bought everything with the 100 mhz bus in mind , but looking at the 400 celleron it runs at 66 mhz. Is this a problem, or a waste of money on the other equipment? Can I run the 400 Celleron at 100 mhz Bus speed without damage.

    Thanks for any input.

    Lots of folks are running their Celerons at 100Mhz, including me, and have been since they first came out.

    If you want to O/C your chip, you'll have to run it at some speed other than the 66Mhz speed because the multiplier has been locked by Intel.

    As far as damage, it's a run at your own risk proposition but that's the only way to get those higher speeds, at least for now.

    Thanks Finless -

    after taking a second look at my response, I realize I didn't answer the question very well

    Joe,
    sorry but you aint going to be able to set the FSB to 100 for that 400mhz celeron!
    A 400 has a clock multiplier of 6.
    6x66 buss = 400 mhz.
    Crank the buss to 100 and you will have
    6x100 = 600mhz.
    I have yet to see anyone obtain that speed!

    If you can return the 400 and get a 300a,
    you can clock to 450 and maybe 504.
    About 80% of the celeron 300's can do this.

    Any chance you can return the 400 and get a 300a? You will save some money and should have a 90%, if not better, chance of running at 450. I run mine at 464mhz, and there are many postings about people doing 504 (with a little tweaking).

    I have two 300a both running at 464mhz, running 24/7 w/o any problems.
