Motherboard upgrade

Considering the upcoming release of processors (K6-3, P3, etc) can someone please recommend a good motherboard that I can buy now, that will support a good cheaper CPU, and when I am able to make a full jump, permit me to perhaps swap in one of the newer CPUs. As it stands now, I have a P200MMX in a cheap FYI Motherboard. I have to do something, my 3D gaming is dull to say the least. I have about $3-400 to spend on this before I go back to school, so what I get now for a motherboard will be what I have to keep until Y2K, so I better make it good. Plus, I only want to spend 100-150$ on the motherboard, so I can stil afford a cheaper processor ($150). If I can get a good motherboard now, I should be able to hold out a little bit longer and get a lower end P2 if need be. My main concern is being able to do a CPU upgrade perhaps in the summer of come next X-mas, so I want to be able to have upgradability in my selection.

Any info would be appreciated, or even a URL to follow.

The most advanced and forward looking mobo is the new Abit BX6 v2.0. I just got one, it's great. Go to pricewatch.com for the best deals. Today's best price is $112.

If your case is not the new ATX type, you'll need one of those too. The board has 1-AGP, 5-PCI and 2-ISA slots and uses DIMM SDRAM. Some of your existing parts will be useable, getting the rest probably won't eat up your budget.

first read the poor person's upgrade guide on
the sysop home page. then as an alternative
and i'm taking for granted that your current
FSB is 66mhz and you're running a slot 5 or
slot 7 cpu, check out the powerleap adapter at www.powerleap.com. an upgrade to a k6-2 400mhz is $249 and will come down after the new k6-3 is in full production. bottomline
i wouldn't upgrade my mobo until the 200mhz
FSB is commonplace. maybe what you really
need to enhance your gaming is a good video
card with a minimum of 8megs of ram on board. just bit the bullet and get the 3d
version.

64Meg RAM PC100 8ns
ATX Midtower case

I understand the ABIT boards may be even better for o/c.

I added a Graphics Blaster TNT to the above and am o/c to 83x4.5=376mhz. The card is set to 125mhz and the whole system is very stable. Can't o/c to 450, I need to play with the AGP speed. Maybe if I set it to 2/3 it may work.
