Dinky little hsf on my Radeon

Has anyone actuall removed the hsf on the OEM Radeon 64 ddr VIVO? It's a sorry little pathetic thing, and I'm afraid it just won't hold up to my abuses. I have an alternate ready to install, but want some actual experiences in the matter.... should I freeze it then twist it off? Or some carefully placed prying? I actually sold a vid card to a guy that tried to pry off the hs then blamed me for selling him a dead card. He almost removed the entire chipset!! Anyway any advice would help.

I did one not too long ago---I put a credit card on the pcb and used a thin flatblade screwdriver slid underneath the sink, one easy twist and it popped off, be careful when putting the new hs/fan on, I used a blue orb (not a good choice in this situation) that didnt center to well on the gpu and got it alittle too close to the edge connector, it wouldnt bottom out in the socket (ooopsie) luckly I used ***diluted*** arctic sil epoxy and could remove it clean it up and remount it...

on my geforce 2 GTS, i just put a flatblade(big one) under the hsf and twisted, and hoped i didn't have to go buy a geforce 3 when i was done. fortunately it worked flawlessly. but there was the glue still there from the old one, but some sandpaper fixed that right up real fast. card works great still. looks cool to(i got big blue mem sinks too!)

On my AIW Radeon I did what KOP did no problem the glue isn't too strong.

If you had spent a small amount of money more and purchased the Retail Boxed version of this card. ($153.00 + shipping) you would have the SE version of the VIVO. You would have gotton the new GPU that runs a lot cooler than the GPU on your card. therefore you would not be worried about heat problems. This "SE" VIVO DDR 64 can be purchased through NewEgg.com and is really a great vid card for gaming. Has the highest fps of any Radeon available. The prefered drivers for this card is the 7075 driver set. The card you have can be OC'ed to somewhere arround the stock speed of the SE card, but therefore you will probably need a better fan/hs on the GPU and hs's on the memory chips as well. Anyway hope it works out for you.
