Do we need screensavers anymore??
I was recently told that monitors made in the past 7-10 years don't require a screensaver to protect against burning an image into the screen. I never knew that and frankly, I feel stupid for thinking I needed a screensaver this whole time
Sooooo....do we really need 'em?

I also don't think screensavers are neccessary(with one or two exceptions), especially the new ones that make your shiny new GeForce card work hard - that just consumes a lot of power for really no reason.
The two exceptions - that main one is SETI@Home . Yes, it makes the CPU use up power, but it's at least doing something useful. And, if you've got an old monitor that's susceptible to screen-burn, it has a blanking option. (which also makes it run faster)
The other is that RC5 thing, of which I know little about, but it seems to have some purpose behind it, and that way, the CPU's time isn't being wasted.

No. Just as you heard, we haven't needed screensavers for many years.
But they give programmers something to do with all that stupid code that would be useless otherwise...oh wait, screensavers ARE useless.

Screen Saver? for fun, for entertainment purpose. People who have all the time in the world. It does make your monitor work harder and I guess some are just too lazy to use the DPMS mode, or blank screen option.
