Lightbulb Help Me Choose a Video Card!

I'm going to be ordering a new Athlon 800 system in the next week or so, and I'm not really sure which video card to get. I mostly play games online like Half-Life and Nascar3. I'm currently looking at a Guillemot GeForce DDR. I can't wait for upcoming products and I can't spend the $ for a GeForce2 GTS. So with that in mind what would you recommend and why? Thanks.

I would definitely get one of the GeForce DDR cards. Which one is really a matter of preference, cost, and features. Personally, I have an Annihilator Pro (Creative) and have had no problems or anything with it. Other good ones are the Prophet and Asus 6800 which have different features. If you need TV-out, I would probably recommend the Asus. The Annihilator is probably the cheapest, but it doesn't have TV-out..

Thanks a lot for the responses! If I get a GeForce it will definately be a DDR version. TV out is not a priority for me so the extra $ for the v6800 is probably best spent elsewhere? What about the Voodoo5's? Anybody have an opinion on these guys?

I got the Creative Annihilator Pro and is very good, never had a problem with it. Im also using 5.16 Driver with NVDIA reference bios.

Th Voodoo 5 5500 offers a bit better performance (1-6fps in Quake 3)at High Resolution but the GF DDR is better at low resolution. If you want a good Voodoo 5 you'll have to wait for the Voodoo 5 6000 (599$US)which is out of the question on your case.

I think the minimum you would want to go is a GeForce DDR card. It would be a shame to waste all that Athlon power on a under powered video card. I personally have a Creative Annihilator Pro also with a P3 500@575 and it is a great card. I have it overclocked to 140/333. Good luck.

Get a GeForce of some sort. Carmack has given it his blessing, while simultaneously rebuffing the Voodoo5. Read all about it here: http://www.fgnonline.com/news/13609.html

I would recommend getting the the v5 5500. Why because it looks like it will perform at the same level with the Geforce2 card, and is definately better than the Geforce card. So spend a little more than a Geforce and less than a Geforce2 and get great performance and new features.

    Just my two cents.
