Video Card Choice Problem
I want to get a new card to use with a Asus K7M motherboard and a Athlon chip but I don't know which one to pick.
-I hear the Geforce chipset has major problems with Atlon chips.
-I heard the Matrox g400 Max has driver issues
-I The Voodoo3 is not worth getting cause it doesn't have enough RAM even the high clock speed of the 3500 model is not worth it.
-I don't know anything about the ATI Rage Fury MAxx
-I hear Tnt2's have issues to with AMD chips
The only things I am looking for in a card is something the has great iamge quailty I am not into fast frames rates. I am willing to have lower frame rates for great image quailty. And I want to card to be able to play tomorrows games as well as todays. Can someone please help me I AM ONLY 2 WEEKS OUT FROM BUILDING MY SYSTEM. Price of the card doesn't matter. I am strictly a gamer.

I ordered the Gulliemont Maxi Gamer Xentor 32 was that is good choice?

The g400 max does not have any more driver issues in fact the new drivers kick major ***.
I just ordered the g400 max over the geforce
less then 20 minutes ago,and let me tell you,you will not find a better card out right now,and the drivers are going to get even better really soon as they have just turned over the driver programming to an exellent company. The g400 max is even in many cases beating the geforce SDR.

That's the fastest (stock) tnt2 card avalible. I have one and have had no troubles with it.
Though the asus k7m wouldn't have any problems with any vid cards...geforce included. Atleast according to all the reveiws I've read.

oblivion,
Just curious, where are you getting your info from? I've just never seen the g400max getting the better of a geforce product.

Just go to the beloved AnandTech
and read through this review I have posted a link to,it has the g400 max besting the geforce SDR in a few cases if not staying right below it. Plus the g400 max has superior image quality, far better then any other ard out now.

I was reading on the web or a magazine about tha Athlon 1 Gig powerhouse computer, well anyway I found it. Go to http://www.sys.com
They were have trouble with video card and used a Creative Labs to go with the Athlon.
Might be what you're looking for...

Get the Viper 2 (savage 2000) It has image quality that supases the geforce, and in some caeses is faster than the geforce sdr. So far I havnt heard and compadibility probs for it. U should check it out.

It dosent matter about the 16mg in the voodoo3's , it is still one of the fastest out there, but as u said that u want good image quality, well........ 3dfx isnt the best for that.

The Svage4 or the Savage2000. The 2000 will soon have drivers for it;s onboard T&L and has S3TC texture compression - looks AWESOME!

The G400 is a sweet card no doubt. After the driver issues had been worked out, it really shined. Thing is, the price hasnt nudged down much since it first came out (its about 200 now). EBM is AWESOME. Dualhead is also great.
still got a stocky pricetag on the G400max tho. The G400 shows a prime example of a great product that still shines because of working out the driver issue
Another card that has massive potential, but is held back by this same setback is the card that Diamond decided to represent the next gen over the GeForce, none other than the Viper II Savage 2000. Its got better scores than the Max400, costs 150 retail, has premature drivers, and has T&L hidden somewhere in the hardware waiting to be unlocked by a driver.
Will be reviewing that soon, as soon as I get my friends comp up (have a Viper in the box here. Im expecting great things from this card.

Auraedge,I paid 193$ for my g400 max yesterday,I think that is a good deal.
I also firmly believe that the next driver release will give a much better performance boost, since the card is so advanced.
For 10 more $'s I could have gotten the asus SDR geforce pure.......
