    Voodoo2 and DirectX 6.1

If I try to use DirectX 6.1 with my Voodoo2 my computer reboot. This only not happens if I back to DirectX 5.0. Any game or program that will use D3D in 6.1 version causes the same, reboot the machine, but if I put 5.0 version everything back to normal and my games work fine.
    Why????????
I downloaded the latest drivers for my Voodoo2 card and my Stealth 64 Vram. My system is a K6-2 400Mhz with 64Mb and a PCCHIPS Mobo model M577(MVP3 chipset).
    Any ideas??

directx 6.1 hasd some bugs in it that deal with voodoo2 chipsets and others......
    have you tried directx 6.0??
it seems "less buggy" than directx 6.1

Thanks Jokostel, but DirectX 6.0 won't run, only when I go back to 5.0 everything works fine. It's possible to be a driver of my Voodoo2 the cause o f my troubles? I downloaded the latest driver that I could find, directly from 3Dfx web page!
Most amazing is that when I use WWII Fighters, from EA, with DirectX 5.0 it runs well, but when I finish the game and return to Win98 the files ddraw.dll and ddraw16.dll are swapped for new files(directx 6.0). So, I need to erase those files and put directx 5.0 files again.

Thanks guys, but No, I don't have any viruses in my system, check all time with the latest viruscan, and my V2 is an Diamond Monster with 8 megs. Yesterday I tried many instalations of directx, 6.0, 6.1 and returns to 5.0 because my games(NFS2, NFS3, WWII Fighters, MDK) only works with version 5.0 if I use 6.0 my system just lock up but if I use 6.1 reboot all time that I try to use some program, even Sandra99 DirectX tests.
    Sooo Strange No????
    Any ideas will be accepted(helllp).

hey amd has a few patches that make the 3d now work better, you may check out www.3dnow.net for these or just visit amd's website.

When was the last time you formatted your hard drive and reinstalled windows? (this can also be accomplished by deleting the windows folder and reinstalling windows, but fromats are cleaner.)
You could just be looking at Microsofts usual scenario where if you add and remove enough things you get driver corruption and nothing will work cause the registry is hosed.

Dont know if any of this will help, but my voodoo2 works fine with dx 6.0 and above.

also check the mobo bios. make srure it is at the latest...
