    Quantum Obsidian x24 drivers

Problem: Half-life won't run properly in OpenGL or D3D with 5c drivers, but runs beautifully on 6cbeta4 drivers; Air Warrior 3 runs fine with 5c drivers but won't run with 6cbeta4 drivers.
Manifestation: With 5c drivers, Half-life won't load in OpenGL at any resolution, and runs slowly in D3D at all resolutions; AW3 is normal. With 6cbeta4 drivers, Half-life runs perfectly in both OpenGL and D3D, but when the ****pit art loads for AW3, I get the message, "DirectDraw failed to initialize. Air Warrior will now exit."
System: P2-400 (not oc'd), Asus p2b (w/latest bios), Win98, DirectX 6.1, Diamond Viper 330 for 2d, Quantum Obsidian x24 for 3d, SBlive, 128mb ram, big swap file, frequent scan & defrag.
Specific question: Why would DirectDraw fail to initialize? Is that a problem with the game, the drivers, or DirectX?
