pci video card troubles
I have a "cheap" Trident TGUI9440AGi pci video card that I am putting in a small system for my kids to use. My problem is that the video is unstable, it flickers about every 2 seconds or so, it does this at boot up in the ram test screens and in win98 once the system is loaded. I have put in an isa video card that I had and it solves the problem, so I am thinking that my monitor is good.(it is less than a year old) if I put the trident card back in the problem comes back. Any ideas, I went to trident's site and got the latest driver for that card, it is an old card put I don't need it to do too much.
Thanks for any light that you can shed on this problem.

If your RAMDAC on your card is going bad, you might just have a refresh rate problem. It could be that the card can't negotiaite a useable refresh rate for your monitor, or that your card's refresh rate is set improperly. You might also want to check your bios settings for your PCI bus (i.e, some PCI cards require a set IRQ, some require pallette snoop to be enabled, etc.).

I sent the card back to computer geeks today, they are going to send me a different card by weeks end. Thanks for your replay and if I have the same trouble I will check out the bios. I was able to put a digital research 8meg 3D pci card in the system and it is running fine with that. I just didn't want to spend any extra money on a system that is not going to see alot of graphics use.
