16mb Banshee Vs. 16mb Riva TNT
I'm looking at buying a new puter, but am stuck on a video card. I want to know which of these two cards are better and which brands are the best. I figure that Creative Labs is the best so far but I might be wrong. Please Help.

The TNT will give you a far better picture in 3D, don't know the differences in 2D.
The TNT will get faster as you upgrade the CPU, since it relies on it so much. The Banshee is fast, but won't gain much as CPU upgrade time.
Within a brand if the Banshee is $10 less, even $20, I'd buy the TNT. It's a superior product.

I'd definitely say go with the TNT! It has some serious 2D and 3D performance, much better than the Banshee. As far as the Creative Labs TNT... it depends on how far you want to go. Actually, the Asustek TNT is the best, but it tends to be more expensive. Right now I'm using the CL TNT and I love it, it's a wonderful card. Go to www.pricewatch.com, and see who will sell you each card, and for what price. If your wallet allows, go for the Asus TNT, if not, then the CL TNT is still pretty darn good. Please notice that if you're on a Super-7 mobo, you can and probably will have some issues setting up the card. Go to www.aceshardware.com if you have any problems with it. Best of luck to you!

I have a Banshee and I haven't had any problems what so ever. Creative makes good Banshee cards, but Diamond pre-overclocks thiers (not by much though, I don't think), and adds a fan to keep it cool; that's why it's $20 more than Creative's. One thing though about TNT using the CPU is that it takes away from game performance, the Banshee does most of the work w/o CPU which leaves allows the CPU to work on other calculations. Also, Glide is the main API for 3D graphics, D3D is on the rise, but as of yet, more games support Glide than D3D.

Buy the Banshee. I've tried out everything from Redention Verite, to i740, to TNT, to 3dfx. The Banshee has been the most stable and the best performer overall. Get the Creative Labs, not the Diamond. It has better drivers (I ran it against my friends Monster Fusion, on the same system. The Creative using the latest 3dfx reference drivers performed marginally better.)

Programmers say that Glide is easier to work with that D3D. Also some of the DirectX drivers for cards are awful. Glide is way faster than D3D...Stick with 3dfx

If he doesn't want to upgrade his processor, then banshee is the best bet.
