MAX resolution in Half-life wth VOODOO1?
i have a canopus voodoo1 but can't play in more then 640x480 resolution why???
Is it normal??
((did not try other games yet| | )

Most games (including 2D ones) uses double
buffering.
2 640x480x16 buffers will take about 1.17MB.
2 800x600x16 buffers will take about 1.83MB.
You'll need extra memory for the alpha &
Z buffer hence even if your card has 2MB
display memory, it'll only be able to use
640x480x16 when double buffering is used.

I have a canopus pure3d (voodoo1) 6mb....
but half-life and starsiege (games try so far) only give me 640x ......

With 6MB, you can have two feasible
cofigurations:
1) 4MB video RAM + 2MB texture RAM (4/2)
2) 2MB video RAM + 4MB texture RAM (2/4)
It sounds as though your board is of the
latter form which limits your resolution.
I don't have the specs. for the Pure3D so
cannot be sure how it is configured. The
user manual should be able to tell you how
the memory is configured.
Note that texture memory cannot be used for
video display.

By turning off Z-Buffer might be able to run the game in 800, provided the game allow u to turn off Z-Buffer.
BTW, considering the fill-rate of V1, it is not advisable to run this game at 800x600, and it's a multitexturing game...it's going to jerk big time !!
640*480 is satisfactory...

The Canopus Voodoo I has 4 mb of texture memory and 2mb of framebuffer (the framebuffer is where you get your high resolution) 640x480 is usually the default for voodoo1 chipsets
