Why do I hear so many wonderful things about Riva TNT rather than Banshee?

the Riva TnT is a VERY cpu dependant chip and Nvidia has built their designs around a intel actritecture...
the k6-2350 is an execllent processor....I have a k6 series yet....hehe
but anyways the 3DFX chips are less cpu dependant meaning they are "self-sufficent" in certain ways.... the TnT is good but for GREAT 3dfx performance for the $$ get the a video board with the voodoo banshee...
(quantum 3d RAVEN) (diamond M.Fusion) etc...

I have a system with an Asus P5A and have been happy with the performance of the Diamond Monster Fusion and Viper V550. The Aladdin V chipset and Asus quality make the P5A one of the more stable and compatible Super7 mobos out there. You'll be happy with either card and game bundle.

AMD k6-2 400 user here, with CL Riva TNT. Incredible graphics card, I would not even consider buying any other card. I have two computers in my home, and I bought two TNT's!

The Riva TNT simply outperforms anything 3dfx has put out. Please note that if you get the AGP version of the TNT, it could have problems installing properly. The reason for this is because your AMD K6-2 is Super 7, and AGP can have issues with that, although they usually can be resolved. If you do get one and have problems, navigate your way through www.aceshardware.com. There's tons of info on setting up graphics cards. The nice thing about the TNT is that it gives you *wonderful* performance for both 2d and 3d. Once your system takes it, you never have to think about it again and can just enjoy. Plus 3dfx is plagued by bad business decisions, and I just don't agree with how the company is run. I recently got the Graphics Blaster Riva, and I am a completely satisfied customer. I can guarantee you when it's time to upgrade, I'll get the TNT2. What can I say? It just kicks.

I'm one of the unfortunate who is still having trouble getting my STB4400 to run reliably with K6-2/300 on FIC VA503+. But for performance, I have to agree with the others. It's amazing.

I agree, i run a k6-2 300 at 350 and my stb
4400 runs great, in fact, i had no problems installing it the first time i popped it in.

Well, I have to be the one to say that I really prefer the Banshee. Oh well. I am a flight sim fan, and while many sims are starting to support Direct3d in some more-or-less decent fasion, 3dfx GLIDE is really the standard hardware acceleration API for this kind of software. If you're into flight sims get a Banshee. If not, the TNT will do you well (and better when you get a faster CPU down the road). The 2d on both cards is excellent. If price is an issue for you, you need to know that you'll pay a bit less for the Banshee, too. Good luck.

I too am gonna have to side with Banshee, like Lawton said, Glide seems like the mainstream API right now, and I, too, love flight sims. I had TNT before I switched to Banshee and I don't regret the switch at all.

The Banshee is the way to go. It has the widest support. The performance doesn't laj either. Right now, it actually holds the title of being one the fastest 2d cards ever produced. It executes the windows Graphical
Driver Interface from hardware(extrmely fast), not software(extremely slow) like the TNT, Rendition, Savage, i740, etc. I agree the TNT barely edges it out on 3d, but since the Banshee supports Glide it still is the better buy.

Well I will have to admit that if I were giving my opinion on the matter (and I am I would go with the Banshee. I originally had a Banshee made by Guillemont I installed it it worked perfectly. I recently bought a Viper 550 from Diamond and really looked froward to running it but sad to say I have had nothing but problems with it. By reading through some of the post here and other spots on the web I was able to at least get it to run in Windows,but it would not run any games. So I got tired of messing with it and put the Banshee back in so if you wan't to run I would recommend a Banshee.
