id take the voodoo banshe...(i have one) its VERY fast its 3d core is basically a single voodoo2 and the 2d core is very fast as well.
i have dealt with nvidia's video chipsets and i DONT like them... 3dfx is a much better choice

Here is what I am doing, I am also looking for a good 2D/3D card for games. Now if you already have a Voodoo or Voodoo2 do something like this:
    With a Voodoo2 get a Matrox G200 for 2D and use the Voodoo2 for your 3D
With a Voodoo or none, go get a ATI RAGE FURY. It has better 32bit performance at resolutions 800x600 and up then a TNT has. And with a Voodoo to do GLIDE you should be set for just about anything.

I personnally have a Voodoo2 but I'm getting the Fury, and another Voodoo2 to SLI, but this is an expensive combo to do ($150 for the Fury, $119 for the Monster3D 2 12meg) and if you are going to have to buy 2 Voodoo2's I would recomend any of the cheaper Voodoo2 cause the performance of the Monster isn't that much better.

Banshee's are good if you don't have the $$ for anything more. If you notice, the Banshee costs less then a voodoo2 the reason that is is because it doesn't have as good a quality as a regular voodoo2 chipset has, and it also doesn't have a really good 128bit 2D quality as compaired to other 128bit 2D cards. But all in all, its good bang for the $
