did i smoke my prossesser?

I just got a new PEP66 alpha heatsink with a 60mm delta fan with a 3 pin connector.I have taken off my coolermaster HS several times so i know how to do it safely, I installed the Alpha,put a SMALL amount of AS2 and hooked everything back up,it ran for about 5 seconds and everything shut off, like i flipped the switch on the power supplyI thought hmmm, thats wierd,so i took it back out and put in the coolermaster, everything came on, all 4 fans work the cd-rom powers up
all the lights in front come on but black screen on monitor,no boot up nothing,chaned out the PS from a 250 to a 300W,still nothing,I thought well, this sux so ill set up a different computer that has never been fired up, i unhook the "smoked" one and hook up the other one to the same monitor and guess what.. it has a black screen too,checked the surge protectors and all 3 are working properly,the only thing i did to this one was take off the HS and scrape of the bubble gum in exchange for the AS2,this is a NEW system without an OS yet,the first one worked fine before i installed the alpha HS as well.

Hi krads. Welcome to Sysopt!

It depends on which Athlon you have, but I think it may have died. I have had too much experience in this department recently. Two were killed here at work while I watched. The exact scenario that you posed happened to me. Try a known working system with your setup (monitor and power strip) to amek sure there is nothing amiss. In the burned system, I don;t think there is much to be done int he way of troubleshooting. You can try these steps:
remove all PCI/ ISA cards and leave only the video, ram and processor w/ HS/Fan connected (unhook any drives as well). Now try to boot.
Clear the CMOS and try to boot
Check to make sure your mobo is not touching metal inthe case and grounding itself out.
(long shot) try another power supply in the system

If none of that changes the situation, you have probably fried the cpu. You can also tell usually by the burned marks on the chip.

As for the other system, (the second system) did you try it with a different fan, or was it an Alpha too? I used an Alpha on the ones here at work that died. NOT good!
