Fan & HS on Duron processor

I am building my first Duron/Athlon system and have a Duron 750 CPU. The center is pretty small, I guess that's the "core", and surrounded by small protrusions?. When I install the heatsink and fan do I just put thermal paste on the core? Or should I spread it on the bottom of the HS. I've only worked with Pentium or K6 before.

    Thanks for your help.

Yes the small center would be the core of the chip. All you need to do it just apply a thin layer of thermal paste onto the core of the chip and your good to go.

Just a quick ques. about any processor and Thermal Goo...

Does it have to be EXACT or can it be a hair sloppy (sloppy I mean maybe a rough edge here or there, etc.)

I'm not sure what you mean about "sloppy". Not covering the complete surface? I probably need to know this.
