I have a Pii-266 with 64 meg ram and a 30 Gb h/d. o/s is win 98se
prob is it is VERY slow to boot up, much longer than 95.

there is 10 listings in the msconfig\startup menu..(norton email protect, wheelmouse, instant access, scan reg, systray, regdrophandler, taskmonitor, load power profile, norton autoprotect, csinject.exe) in that order.

when i ran 'boot analyzer' there was a **** load of stuff in there that i have no idea what it is. any help to make this system fly would be great... No..Not fly as in..out the window, b4 anyone says it )

Check to make shure that norton antivirus is not scanning all files and only scanning incoming E-mail and new and copied files. Hope this helps.

Just curious, do you also have a network card in your machine?

If so, do you have it configured with an IP address? If you do have a network card and its not configured with an address, it might be slowing down your boot up process.

Well, Target probably has the best idea yet.

However, on the msconfig thing, I disable everything there except

Scan Registry
Systray
Antivirus

I do NOT run powerprofile or any other stuff and this junk runs just fine..

For now, anyway

well, now i have another 256 meg of ram, hell it was only $135 AU
will try that idea of Richard's in the config and let ya know how it works.

and, nope to the network card Target, but might be geting one soon, the wife and me fight for the net, so with 2 systems networked it will save my *** )
