Lightbulb Best time to buy ram NOW? Or can it go any lower?

I'm already gettin' 96mb PC100 RAM in trade.

So I'll have 256mb in total sharing between 2 systems.

Are DDR SDRAM and Rambus going to come out soon and kick the current $$$ of the PC100/PC133 variety down even further?

I have a scanner, and you know how big one scanned image can get - lets talk 100megs or more. I think I'm gonna get another 64mb PC133.

Get them while they're still cheap guys 'cause who knows when there's gonna be another shortage.

    Question

Is it me or you're just posting non-stop to reach 500?

First check the post about Rambus that was posted about the same as this one. Rambus is dead or close to it. Only one source says so though...

Ram could go lower but I think it will level off and maybe the manufacturers will cause more demand and less supply again at any time. I hope they don't do it though.
It is darn cheap right now though

Rambus may very well be the biggest flop by Intel. It doesn't offer a lot of bang for our bucks, especially considering we'd have to get a new mobo to use it. I think ddr SDRAM has a better chance of survival.

Serge - I could really care less about reachin' 500. I'll get there when I get there. No need to make it happen on purpose.

The best time would be march 5-19. I feel that it is the best time to buy as, by then, prices would had dropped all they can.

With more people buying computers (seasonal) in Q2, its smart to get our rams.

Also, manufacturers are cutting back on production.

Think about it, and don't forget that rams were at this price last june/july.

with gigahertz processing chips available, wont this create a bottleneck in PCs because there simply isnt enough RAM available to maximize the potential of these super fast chips? what manufactirers are out there that have something avaiable or in the works that can keep up with these gighertz chips?? It sounds to me that even if you have this gigahertz chip in your PC, given the current memory boards available, a bottleneck wil be created...kind of like having a Formula 1 engine in your car, but only being able to drive it 55 mph...what companies are working on sdram, dram, or whatever that can help unleash the power of these new microchips and are compatible with the hundreds of thousands of PCs out there

Check my post in the thread below on 64MB sticks at Onsale at Cost (uh oh, looks). Pretty nice buy and maybe the bottom of the fall in prices.

For what its worth, I bought a 256MB stick of PC133 micron memory from memorymonster.com for $259 two weeks ago. (Works great in my new Athlon system) It then dropped to $249 2 days after I bought it. I thought about complaining about some sort of price guarantee, but when I checked again, I see it is now going for $299.

Me thinks me keep my mouth shut now!

Plucky, buy it NOW!! You'll regret it! I ordered 32mb PC100 when ram was at the all time low. I had to fork out £120 quid for my next 64mb!
