    overclocking 450 p111

is it possible to overclock a pentium 3 450 or is it a waste of time and get a bigger one now that it is quite slow for the processors that are around now

it's very possible and actually quite easy.

All you do to overclock your processor is raise the fsb. Your processor now runs at 4.5 * 100 fsb with 4.5 being the multiplier factor. To overclock it just raise the fsb eg. 4.5 * 124 fsb etc.

Overclocking this processor should give you a nice performance increase so it's well worth it. Just watch the temperature of the processor.

    Several peeps got their P3 450s to 600MHz running a 133MHz FSB.

Yep, watch the temperature, because at that speed, the 0.25micron Katmai core will be kicking a fair amount of heat out.

You may need to increase the core voltage, too. Some boards let you, some don't... 10% increase should be fine

Be aware of the implications of increasing the FSB and the resultant PCI and AGP clock speeds for your particular motherboard.

I'm running the P3 450 I got from Socalgal at 600 right now...been doing it for months with no shutdown at all ( it's my webserver 65.32.196.61 )

Even with the factory heatsink and fan.

And I had no problem running the P3 450 I have from BBA at 600 - with good SDRAM and good cooling.

    I used Mushkin PC133 Rev2, on an Abit BX6-2 board. 133fsb (1/4PCI) x4.5, coreV at 2.10, AGP/CPU CLK at 2/3, CasL at 3, and totally stable.

I couldn't get it over 117fsb until I swapped for good SDRAM. The good Mushkin is in my Athlon box now, and the P3 is back down to 117fsb.
