Heatsink Fan Placement *VERY* Important! ;-)
While this might be old news to some of you...it was quite a discovery for myself! I've got an Athlon 750@950 on Asus K7V. Got a GlobalWin32...that's a huge heatsink and 2 good fans on there.
When I put the temperature probe on there about a week ago...I thought it was running kinda high. Doesn't 54-55C seem a bit hot? lol. Needless to say I was concerned. I took a closer look at those fans and realized that the way they were placed, they weren't even cooling off the majority of the heatsink in relation of how it fit on the heatplate. The heatsink is so big it actually overhangs from the heatplate...and that's where they had those 2 fans. Also tried tightening the clips a little and was able to get them a little tighter then before...
The results? How does 8-9C less sound? Ya...that's a big difference. Now it's running around 46C/114F.
Ya I know there was no question in this post...more just a statement of discovery.
