Free isp thorugh kmart/yahoo

Anyone else seen this offer through yahoo I tried to get to the terms of service but the page wouldn't come up. After about 30 busy signals from my current isp I'm thinking about this as a back-up for those heavy nights. Oh yeah they have a local number for my area which is a real surprise. Any heads up would be appreciated.

Yes I took your question seriously. But think for a second. What's the net or your browser going to look like in a year or two? These flashing lights, specials, trying to get your attention to come here and buy something?

If you don't see it, think about it... All this is taking on a completely different meaning now. And I'll bet my last dollar that it won't improve it either.

These free ISP's are popping up everywhere!

Altavista
NetZero
Freei
Freewwweb

And I here more are coming. I admit to using NetZero as a last ditch backup (after my main ISP, and my college's ISP service), but this things just spring from nowhere.

As for the ads, what if MS tried this? They've done everything else, why not offer windows as an ad sponsered OS. Just think, you'll logon in Windows, and then there will be hundreds of little banner ads in the background. Why do think they developed the active desktop? I know I can't another use for it.

After my mindless thoughts, I guess I can answer your question. Just sign up for it, send all the junk mail to a free web email account (like excite or hotmail), and try it out. If you don't like, you haven't lost anything. I have first hand experience with the ISP's I listed above, and I have found there connect speeds and throughputs quite decent. I've setup numerous accounts for family and friends that only surf the net a few gours each month, so they don't mind bannfer ads and the such. I think any of them would surfice as a backup ISP.

They don't have the annoying banner. The only thing you have to do to use it is visit their homepage when you logon. Not a bad deal, and their homepage isn't too aweful bad. Nice part, you don't have to stare at ads continously.

I use WorldSpy a lot.It's free, has a local dialup number, no banner, and of course free e-mail.

I just hooked up to Juno. In fact I'm using it now for free. Hooked up first dialup. Running at 4600bps. Not bad for free. I'm thinking of switching to the Premium version of Juno at $9.95 per month. I suppose the "premium" means no little advertising bar covering the Menu Bar. But not bad. Not bad at'tall.

i've heard that in the terms and conditions for the KMART 'bluelight' service, it is a requirement that you tie your shoelaces together.

can anyone verify this?

I have it on my computer and before cable it would connect me at the higest speed of the three I had...freewwweb was my first choice because it had no banners and then bluelight for the connection speed and also when I reached my 100 hours with freewwweb using getright and downloading all night..netzero was my last choice cuz they disconnect you constantly

I`ve tried the"K-Mart Special", FreeI.com and one or two others trying to get an ISP for a friend to do email with and it`s amazing that the primary number could NEVER connect and it kept trying to connect on the secondary number, which was long distance. I never had a chance to check out the banners or get a blue light special, atleast that`s how it goes in southern Minnesota. Gary

I am using Freewwweb to send this message. I can connect at the same speed as my regular ISP, 49-52,000. No ads or banners makes it impossible to tell the difference between the two.

I understand there is an 80-hour limit per month with Freewwweb. I haven't had any problems with that as I use it primarily as a backup.

There is only one phone number for my city of 500,000, and at peak times it takes several tries to get connected, but I always get on.

I also used Alta Vista and Net Zero, but the flashing banners are incredibly annoying. Give Freewwweb a try and I'll bet you like it.
