I just ordered a Microstar K7T Pro2 A and I was just reading another review and this one said that it has no temp sensor!! ****! I just assumed it had one but I guess not. Man am I angry. So what am I supposed to do now? How will I be able to OC the **** thing if I can't monitor the temp? MAn I am mad. What can I do? PLEASE HELP ME!!!!

first off dont worry

what they mean is that the mobo has no external temp probe

it has 3sensors on the mobo one for each of these things
1CPU
1mobo
1case

Thanks you have helped to put my mind at ease. I also saw in another thread a guy has the same mobo and he had a temp listed so I guess you can get a temp reading on it. Man I though I royally messed up on that decision! Now I need to get me hands on my stuff. I wonder how far I can take a 1gig t-bird up to? 1.2 with a Global Win FOP-38?

Skywalker, are you talking from personal experience?

AFAIK the K7T range has NO monitoring (at least for the CPU temp).

My 6940 (uATX) has no monitoring at all, and I am sure there is no thermistor in the socket (under the CPU) on the K7T2A for sure.

You can hook an external thermometer on the CPU, or send it back and get a different board (the Asus A7v is highly recommended).

I use the 6940 without any monitoring and I tell you, once you're done overclocking with an external thermometer and checked all temps, I never cared about it.

My K7T PRO has a cpu temperature sensor and a "PC Health Status" menu with a temperature display in its bios.

Yeah Othoes, thats the review I read. I think that it must have just been a sample board or something because I have talked with two KT7 Pro owners that said they have temp monitors on theirs and I doubt the KT7 pro 2 would leave them off. I'm gonna e-mail them to settle this once and for all. I'll post reply once I get it.

Otheos do you have personal experience with the K7T? No? Why do you find it so hard to believe that it comes with a temperature sensor? This is the second thread I've had to correct you and you still don't seem convinced;

Are you sure? I know for a fact (after reviewing the MotherBoard Monitor site) That even k6III and k6II chips had them

Unless something drastic has changed, none of AMD's technical documentation shows support for an internal temperature diode in any of AMD's K6-X(+) or Athlon-based processors.

For further verification, I just installed MBM on two of my test systems. My Duron 750 (Asus A7V) allows for temperature monitoring in MBM only with the standard Asus temp probes. The same results also for my K6-2 450 (Epox MVP3-G2), as the standard WinBond chip was detected, but no internal probe option is available.

However, for my Tekram i815E m/b, I can freely select options from either the onboard WinBond monitoring chip, or from my P3 800E's internal thermal diode.

Well how do you account for the fact that the the guy from Anandtech who reviewed the MOBO in question plus several others say they can monitor the processor temps from their BIOS?

Check out chapter three of the MSI K7T-Pro2A manual. Reference the section titled "PC Health Status". Here is an excerpt:

PC Health Status (Optional)

This section helps you to get more information about your system including
CPU temperature, FAN speed and voltages. It is recommended that you
contact with your motherboard supplier to get proper value about your
setting of the CPU temperature.

The part about obtaining the proper value for the processor temperature is rather unusual. Since I do not have this board available for testing right now, I can only theorize that the processor temperature is calculated by way of a derivative temperature analysis feature which is is correlated to the system (board) temperature.

One issue still is present and can not be overlooked: current Athlon-based processors do not have an internal temperature diode sessor.
