    Question RPM sensors

Can you power a fan off the power supply and run the sensor to the mother board? I want to have rpm's reported without all that power running through the mother board.

    Thanks all

Don't see any reason why not, long as you are ok with a soldering iron/crimping pliers etc., the tach output will almost certainly be referenced to 12 gnd (0v).
Unless you have a lot of fans, or big ones, the power consumption is very low, nothing compared to the 12v supply current, and nothing to the 5v line. I wouldnt worry about the mobo.
