Peltiers

Okay, I understand now the basic concept of how a peltier works. But I didn't find any info about how much Watt a K6-2 533 overclocked to 600 generates.
Second I would like to know if a peltier is really a needed if you only overclock an AMD K6-2 from 533 to 600? It's only 67MHz although I would also go further.
(I'm ready to go to 800Mhz or even 900Mhz ;-)

Better yet: I have an AMD K6-2 533 and I want to overclock it to 600MHz (or more) what kind of peltier (numbers and specs) will I need? I'm currently building a small watercooling system (the coolant temp can not go over 35°, otherwise my pump goes boom) that will cool good but nor superb.

The K6/2s are pretty much maxed out at around 550. Yes, a few may hit 600. But I don't think you are likely to do it without a peltier and/or watercooling.

There are some folks around here who are throwing crazy voltage at K6/2s. Don't give in to the temptation, especially if you don't have major cooling.

My recommendation is to sell the board and chip on Ebay and get an Athlon or a Coppermine or Celeron 2.

If you want to keep it, settle for a stable 550.

As for peltiers, remember that the hot side puts out more hot than the cold side puts out cold. So you need serious cooling with any peltier. Air cooling a peltier can work, but it takes a big heatsink,and very good air flow in the case. If you don't get the heat away from the hot side, you can actually increase the temp your CPU runs at.

I think a 52 watt peltier would do the job with an Alpha PEP66 or watercooling.

However, the K6/2s are really cookin at 600, I don't think it's worth the money and time to try to get it past there.

I've owned 4 K6/2s and IMHO, it's time to move on to the new generation of chips, the K6/2 just ain't got anything left to give.

hehe, I'm longwinded today.

You mentioned that it's only 67 mhz, so it shouldn't be any big deal.

.25 micron chips pretty much max out at 600, K6/2s, Celerons, P3s, just won't go much past that. Yes, I know the .25 micron Athlon will, but it's not a huge amount past 600. Anyway, every series of chips has a maximum that you are very unlikely to make it past. The last chips made in a series are closer to that max. The P3/600 Katamai runs hot from the factory, cause the core just ain't got much more to give.

Your K6/2 ain't got much more to give either, whether you watercool it or not.

Better plan, buy a Celeron 533A(.18m coppermine core) and try to hit 1060mhz. I think that is more realistic than a K6/2 at 650.

Not that good a plan. Right now I have an ASUS P55T2P4 Rev.3.1 and 72 MB of PS/2 RAM and an AMD K6-2 533. This will only go to 83MHz FSB with an overclocked PCI (~45MHz) and o/c other buses.
I could sell the board and the RAM for about 200 DM (~100$).
The new DFI K6BV3 (100-133MHz FSB) would cost me about 180-200 DM (~90-100$).
I would also buy 128MB PC133 SDRAM for 258 DM (~130$).
A Celeron 533 would cost me 278 DM (~140$).
A Motherboard for the Celeron would cost me 250-300 DM (~125-150$).
And I would still have to buy new RAMs.
So the K6 outfit costs me about 440-460 DM (~220$) and the Celeron outfit would cost me 790-840 DM (~400$).
I would stay with my existing system if I could run the CPU at 500 without o/c all those other things and either my Viper V550 PCI (unlikely for I play Half-Life with it without problems) or my Hauppuage WinTV doesn't like the high PCI bus (for my Sys crahses after using a high-power TV-App. for 10 min.)
