    Question Two tough! questions

I've got two problems which so far cannot be solved/answered:

    1. My AGP Voodoo3 2000 and 3000 locks up when 3D is enabled when I overclock my C300A (slot1) to 100Mhz and 103Mhz FSB (AGP clock within spec, 67 and 69 Mhz ) but runs fine at 83Mhz FSB (AGP clock way out of spec, 83 Mhz). M/B is a Tyan Thunder 100 BX 1836DLU.

    2. The M/B mentioned above supports up to the 600 Mhz Katmai P3. I have access to a beta Tyan BIOS which should support the coppermine which will allow me to use the 600 Mhz coppemines. The FSB settings will go as high as 124 Mhz. Using the Iwill Slocket II, will the faster FC-PGA CPUs 700-800Mhz or more run ... albeit with lower clock speeds.
Basically I'm unhappy that my EXPENSIVE m/b which is hardly a year old is obsolete ... hoping the IWILL slocket II will keep it going for another year or two.

Can't get Tyan to respond to stuff that includes 3rd party hardware

    Cheers

the new FCPGA cpus I *believe* tell the bios what the miltiplier, reguardless of what your board *supports*, it should run anyway. At least that's what the new celerons 566+ do because my BF6 only *supports* 8.0 multiplier max. but my 566 works fine. good luck, sorry, can't help with the voodoo prob, but just check to be sure your dividers for AGP are set properly for 100 bus speed (2/3), if not, you will need to look into the wiser people of this msgboard

    Question

I agree with falcompsx - check those AGP dividers! The card may be seriously unhappy at a bus speed of 100MHz (standard is 66).

Also, what about your memory - is it PC100 or PC66?

Thanks for the replies falcom and krusty

I'll try to get hold of a coppermine cpu on loan just to make sure.

As for my AGP multiplier, SiSoft Sandra says my AGP is 67Mhz (@100Mhz) and 69 Mhz (@103Mhz) so I guess the multiplier is ok
... unless Sandra is wrong...funny thing is at 83Mhz FSB the AGP at 83 Mhz it works fine.
I guess this will be one of the great mysteries of the universe

My RAM is PC100..anyway everything else works fine overclocked, just the 3D...locks up solid, black screen and doesn't even respond to Ctrl-Alt-Del

    Thanks anyway.

No, there is no preblem with the V3 - the problem isn't stable at that speed - it might have been with another card before because few cards heat up as much as it does - more cooling, voltage tweaks could be needed. Make sure your ram is at CAS3, incase it's cheap stuff

hmm, thats an angle I never thought much about .... I guess I'll have to work along the lines of "what else kicks in when I enter a 3D game". Thanks alpha !
