windows 2000 is not................a consumer grade OS...

I dont know,.I actually know a lot of people personally that actually thought that windows 2000 was the next windoze version in the series and didnt even know what NT was or if they did they didnt know a thing about it..Oh sure they were pretty hyped about getting it and installing it because of the "keeping up with the Joneses" syndrome and media hype and attention, but after I sent them to some sites with info about it and they had a chance to gain a little more insight about what the OS actually was and the pros and cons depending on their personal uses; they werent so enthusiastic anymore, a couple of them were but that was only because they are more inclined to experimentation like me and had a curiosity to learn it anyway...I never told them once that they shouldnt get it, all I did was to direct them to learning more about it before they jumped blindly with their misconception that it was just another upgrade like it was going from 3.1 to 95 to 98...( it is a more-consumer-like OS though I wont disagree with that) A lot of things may seem the same or similar but it really is a different animal to contend with and I think what it really boils down to is how a person applies their uses for an OS and what they want out of it just as much as personal preference and knowledge needed to know or already known for making the choice to move to windows 2000 or sticking with 98 till millenium comes out.... my 2 cents...

Well I look forward to win2k do not get me wrong,it is just i know people who do not even know what fdisk is that are planning on running it,and they are thinking that it is an easier OS then w98 to operate,this post was more for people who didnt know that w2k was NT with plug-n-play ect. ect.

It will not be an average consumer grade OS in the respect that most every comp user(which happens to be mostly familys that cant even format c )will not stray from the w98/millenium OSes,it is a great gateway OS for peeps that want the best of both OSes,we all know that,but it is not a wise choice for the casual windows user,or the computer illiterate.

But it is a great choice for the Comp geek/tweaker that wants more from an OS then w98,although I am sure most hardcore gamers will be dual booting,or running two boxes for about a year at the most.

And this small percentage of users that make up the geek/tweaker crowd can hardly be considered the "average consumer"...............M$ will not make w2k easy for the average consumer anyways,we all know that.

M$ wants two big $$$$ cows,so to make w2k to easy to operate would IMO hurt them in sales
because it would drive the price of w2k down if it became an aveage consumer OS,and they do not want that,so w2k will still be a bit more difficult to setup and run then w98.
