k6-2 @ 75 MHz front side?
I have a k6-2 running at 333 (5x66) right now. I tried upping it to 5.5x66 (366) and it quit at the gui startup (win98).
I'm wondering if anyone has gotten this cpu to run on a 75x4.5 (or even 5?)?
you have to keep it very cool and up the V-core voltage a little only .1 or.2 volts do not go over 2.7 volts and your gona need very good cooling for that
Thanks - but my wicked cool mobo gives voltage increments of 1.8,2.2,2.8,3.2 (set at 2.2 right now obviously).
The fsb is set to 66 MHz right now - the only higher setting is 75 MHz. I always thought it was for a cyrix. I guess what I'm asking is, does the k6-2 support 75MHz front side bus? Can I set it to that without touching my core voltage? Is the multiplier locked on the k6-2? (windows made it all the way to the gui when I booted at 5.5x66, then just shut down, I guess it likes the factory 5x66).
I once had a K6-2 300 2.2 volt, running fine at 5.5 X 75 (415 MHz) and 2.4 volt. I guess that there are more unofficial jumpersettings on your mobo. Can you watch the actual CPU core voltage in the BIOS? If so, just set the jumpers, write them down and boot into BIOS and look up the voltage you selected. Make a table to create an overview for all jumpersettings.
If you select a high voltage (over 3 volt) quickly turn off your computer. It is a kind of risky, but my processor survived it.
I created an table that way with all settings for my mobo. I can now select from 2.0 to 3.7 volt in steps of 0.1 volt, and only 4 of them are official!!
Do the same for the FSB and the multiplier jumpers.
