Should level1 cache be disabled???
Soon I'll be getting my freespeed o/c device.
But, do I have to disable level 1 and 2 cache???
Please let me know, I'll be getting the device within a few days.
Thanx in advance.
No, the should be enabled.
Isn't it true if your gonna o/c an athlon, you will at least have to change the setting for the cache??!!
I mean if the L2 cache is designed for half speed on 650, it would run 325, no??
But, if you clock the cpu up, the cache goes with it, don't you have to reset a divider or something???
Pim (at home)
You should disable it if you desire the worst performance possible.....but I doubt that is what you are looking for,so the answer to your question,if you are desiring the most performance would be no.
Ultima, the athlons L2 cache runs at a divider
relevant to the CPU speed, and it needs to be lower the higher the CPU is clocked,at500-650,I believe that the L2 is set at 1/2 700-850 is 2/5,and 900-1000 the L2 is 1/3....so if you are OCing an athlon 650 for example, you will need to change the L2 cache divider, this can be done with risky soldering,or a free program from GET IT HERE
But be careful with it..........
thanks for the link to the program, but I assume it needs to be run under dos-mode, since it says it can't run on this machine, when I start it in windows.
Can you give me some advice how to work with this program, cause I have no experience with cache divider programs.
See, this is the first time I'll be o/c'ing a cpu where the cache divider has to be changed.
Thanks in advance
Ultima,I am athlon challenged(meaning I have never owned one myself)but I thought it was able to be ran under windows....I guess I was wrong...pose this same question in this forum, and you will surely get the help you need........I will also try to help by asking around.
I'll post another message and see what comes out of it.
I was able to set it to 700Mhz without having to change the divider, but 50Mhz increase isn't what I was aiming for.
