    Question new OC help

i'm about to get a generic system. These are the specs:

AMD 500MHz (i'm not sure if it's the Athlon
    or K6-2)
    64MB of SDRAM PC100 100MHz
    15GB HD, 50X CD-ROM, 8MB Video etc...
I don't know what the mb (motherboard) is
yet. But do you think i can get good results
by OC a AMD K6-2 500MHz or AMD Athlon 500MHz.
I'm pretty sure it's either an Athlon or K6-2
because, that is the only speeds and class
AMD is using. How do I OC using a jumperless
mobo, and you have to OC by changing the FSB
around, and the multipliers in the BIOS. I
heard u can fry the CPU if u overdo it, how
do u know if u overdid it (other than having
smoke come out of the case). Oh yea, i'm
only paying $433 for the system, so i can
get a new mobo maybe, and some more RAM.

well, need some beginner's OC help.

It's definately not an Athlon if it is only $433. The K6-2 500 may not clock too much since the highest K6-2 is 533. All you need to do is raise the front side bus or frequency multiplier up one setting with a possible rise in your voltage setting for stability. All the settings should be in the motherboard manual. The highest you should really go on the voltage should be 2.6V or 2.7V. Don't even try 3.0V or you'll kill your chip. You may want to get better cooling too b/c retail cooling is not good enough to overclock.
    Good luck

what if it's an AMD Athlon, i heard they were selling the 500MHz for only 199, so how do u know it's not gonna be an Athlon, just incase, how am i gonna oc it, it's generic. I don't think i'll come with an mobo manual, i'll ask for it though.
