max temp for the k-6 is 60/c but personaly i dont like mine to go above 50/c as i see mere errors when it is that high so i laped it and got a alpha heat sink and y-tech fan and added some more fans to my case now it never goes above 40/c and that running my K6-2-450 @ 525 with a 3.0 v-core lol

my k6-2 450 system gets a little unstable at those temps so i have to keep the case open a bit for it to run at about 105F. If I were you I would get a larger heatsink, some thermal paste, and a case fan perhaps to keep air moving within your case....

well, i do have a mini regular fan (a foot by a foot) blowing on high power in there too. What is your reccommended core voltage ( presently it is at 2.2v, but it goes up to 3.3v.) for it to run at 500mhz? one time it worked, but i got a illeagel operation and i had to restart.

Hi!

K6-III come with several maximum allowed temperatures. You can determine yours by decoding the part number written onto the chip.

It looks something like this:

AMDK6-III/fffxyz

where fff is the core frequency in MHz, x is the form factor (A: socket-7, B: notebook), y is the voltage (H: 2.4V, F: 2.2V), and z is the maximum temperature (Q: 60C, X: 65C, R: 70C).

So an
AMDK6-III/450AHQ would be 2.4V 60C
AMDK6-III/450AFX would be 2.2V 65C

(... and an
AMDK6-III/400ACK would be a 2.0V 80C "P" type mobile applications processor, something end users won't be able to buy :-)

Anyway, if that 45C reading is correct, then there's no reason for getting hectic about it.

Regards, Peter
