The P2 will run better when you have multiple apps running ( Like Winamp and IRC and virus scanning and Office etc...)

    Thats what you will see!

Celeron 400 or Pentium II 400?

I am looking at purchasing a barebone system with either a celeron 400 or pentium II 400. The Pentium cost about $75 more than the celeron system (both have same MB). Is it worth spending the extra $75 to get the pentium and what are its advantages over the celeron?

    Thanks

Go with the Celeron. Take the extra cash and buy more RAM.

"personally" id go with bba's choice..... if youre goinhg to be running a lot of business apps....
but id go with kec95's choice if you want a good processor with a lot less cache which helps on certain apps (business,etc..) for a little less $$... but 75$ will only get you about 64mb of ram.... 128mb pc100 dimm is still around 100$$

BBA's choice is the winner for me....but i am an AMD fan so,im going to go with the ATHLON processor (k7) 1ghz or so when that mhz flavor arrives... for now my k6-2 400mhz is plenty......hehe

    lll go with KEC..
I just went from 64 ram to 128...
    and WOW what a difference...
thast 64 ram was REALLY chokin my system.
if your only gettin 64 ram with it, boot up to 128 and stick the cel in there...
    If you already have 128 in there..then...uh...get a cel 466 or something..Youll still have some change leftover. I have a P2 system and wish I had a Cel...my p2 350 coulda been a cell 433 or 466 or w/ slocket...Similar price...

While we are voting... I can't say much about the Celerons, since I've never owned one. I think it is wrong to suggest buying one product over the other unless you have TRIED both. I can, however, highly reccoment the PII 400, as long as it isn't a remarked older PII. My PII 400 O/Cs to 532 after a little work, and I am VERY pleased. Runs like a dream. If you need any O/Cing help on this one let me know.

    Good luck KB.
