P2 233 to celeron 400 question
I was thinking about upgrading my p2 233
to a 400mhz celeron. My question is would there be that much of a speed difference to justify an upgrade. I have an Abit lx6 motherboard. Also what about overclocking options with these setups, any opinions would be helpfull. thanks

What type of system is it in??
My lx board wouldn't go over 300 MHz. I tried the latest bios upgrade and installed a Celeron 333 MHz and it wouldn't even come on...Ended up getting a better motherboard.
Abit BH6 440bx Got the 333 to 417 and it runs ALOT BETTER than the old 233 Pentium II that I had. So the 400 Celeron should blow it away. Didn't have much luck with the LX board. You might. Depends on the system you are using and if the bios upgrade allows a Celeron on the board.

Unless Abit has come out with a BIOS upgrade that increases the multiplier, the fastest chip you can use is the Celeron 333 or PII 333 because the highest multiplier for this board is 5, it supported 75 MHz, 83 MHz and 100 MHz (although when this board first came out the 100 MHz bus speed was to unstable to run). You could overclock a Celeron 333 to 375 MHz most likely, but getting a Celeron 333 or PII 333 to overclock in this board to 415 MHz is a bit of a gamble.

I just read MrT's post and that reminded me that the Celeron was not out yet when that board was introduced, I don't know if it will work, (maybe with a BIOS upgrade)

i built a system a couple months ago with an abit LX6 and a celeron 300a at 66mhz bus it was ssllooww it would run at 75mhz bus but was shakey and would lock up regularly.the people that wanted me to build it liked it because it was a computer.when i would have to service it it would totally **** me off.(what a peice of ****)this past saturday i had to program their other computer,i had an extra abit bh6 so when i went to their house to work i installed the bh6 with their Costa Rican celeron 300a.66mhz bus stong and stable,75mhz bus-stable,83mhz bus-rock solid.when i left the their computer was at 75 mhz bus at 374mhz,fast,solid,stable.**** were they happy(so was i $$$)...get a new board that 400a will clock in the 500's.
