I would have tried taking the case off and blowing air onto the motherboard using a room fan and tried the setting you are looking to acheive before I would have ordered an Alpha. Try it now, if it does not work this way, then an Alpha won't help either.

Of course an Alpha will help, u cant just blow the heat away.
I remember u had problems with that card, at 112MHz FSB so i dont think it will work. Just buy a normal SB16 comp. sound card and enjoy ur speed.

    Keep cool

Well, I tried the 83 bus, at 1/1 ratio, and my mx300 seems fine. I guess enabling the a3d sound just gives the cpu that added stress that puts it over the top at 112, not to mention Halflife is the most cpu intensive game I own. Id actually be happy at 112, but with a3d enabled, my cpu protests in 15-20 minutes. I'm sure the alpha will take care of that extra heat, im just sure of it!! 504 will be nice. I wish I had the other abit board with the 117 fsb. Maybe abit's working on it, i dunno. Well, thanks for the replies!!

I have run at this speed with a 300A, though not very stable.

Bringing the CPU down to 527mhz was solid. 558Mhz was a little much. There's only so much the Alpha can do...

BTW, this was a very good 300A. Runs 504Mhz @ 2.0v with any old heatsink all day long.
