Survey: How would you buildthe most wicked fast comp. ever?

First off,I would get a case similar to what kryotech offers.Then I would get a k-7 650mhz and o'c it to the hilt(hehe)
I still think the v3 and tnt2 question can be answered with this question.

Still have not decided to go with a full scsi setup or to give ultra66 a try.

Ultra2Wide SCSI. 10,000 rpm lvd drive (Seagate Cheetah). Proven technology and it's available now. Nothing ATA can touch it. Downside is noise and heat but a punched out big block is loud and hot too!

OK,

TNT2, fastest biggest cache (2 Meg L2) P3-Xeon cpu U can find, and OC it at least 100Mhz faster, 512M 6nS Compaq Proliant DIMMS. UW SCSI-3 80M/sec controller with 10,000RPM drives, DVD-RAM, SB-LIVE sound card.

I gaurentee that is the fastest single CPU PC possible!

Cpu= AMD k-7 o/c'ed to whatever
Ram= some of that super fast ESDRAM (tomshardware.com) it has some on chip cache and runs at 200Mhz+. DRDRAM ( RamBus ) memory can handle up to 800Mhz us speeds but they are still haveing problems with latency and bandwidth so stick with the 200Mhz stuff.
Hard Drive= Forget SeaGate cheeta to loud and hot. IBM has a new 10,000 RPM Ultra SCSI 2 drive that on a 26 meg photoshop file had a write time of 3 seconds compared to the cheeta's 13seconds. Do the math.
Video= TNT2 AGP
Monitor= one of those Gateway Destination Monitors ( really a 27 inch TV at on a high resolution screen)
CDROM=Yes CDROM. How many DVD games do you own, none, so a Kenwood 52x52 CDROM
DVD= yes DVD for movies and stuff.
Sound= Don't really know about sound cards but I still have the speakers that came with my Pentium Pro 200 and they rock. Altec Lansing or some **** ( not at home right now ) and a 10 inch subwoffer also ALtec. It rattels my windows.
Modem= ETHERNET or LAN. Anywhere from 10 to 100 Mbs ( mostly found in big bussiness and collages )

Ok, I do not know if this all will work together since I do have limited resorces, but here goes:

Case: Full server case, 8-16 internal 3.5 bays, 3 external 3.5 bays, 8-10 external 5.25 bays

CD: 2 Ultrawide SCSI DVD 6x rom drives/2 of the fastest DVD-RAM drives on SCSI you can find, CD-Wr SCSI drive, CD-R SCSI Drive

Video setup 1: Voodoo3 Agp, 2 Voodoo3 PCI, all with 16mb

Video setup 2: 1 AGP TNT2, 2 PCI TNT2

CPU: Pentium3 500mhz, if you can get it...Xeon.

MOBO: BX6 Rev.2 (abit)

Coolers: 2 1-1.5lb heatsinks, 4 fans on each.

Hard Drive: The biggest Ultrawide SCSI drive you can find, get 8-16, depending on what the case holds.

Disk Drives: 1 1.44mb 3.5 drive, 1 Zip 200 drive, 1 superdisk drive, 1 2GB Jaz Drive

Speekers: A full blowen enternainment center, get some cables to hook it up to the sound card.

Sound Card: The best you can get with A3D

Internet: 2 T3 Lines to major server servers (like internet Hubs)

Misc: Scsi Ultrawide adapter with 2 connections, as many power supply fans as there is room for case fans (you will have to modify hese, but they are far more powerfull than standard fans).

Printer: Gamers dont realy need printers, get something that has cheap refills.

Ram: 1024mb Micron/Atlas PC-100 Ram (see if it can be overclocked to 133mhz) all in 256mb Dimms and 6ns or less.

Keyboard: Something high quality, you dont want to be in a deathmatch and have your space bar jam (no jumping)

Mouse: Wheel mouse with 3 buttons/trackball with 3 buttons

Monitor: Bigger is better, 21", under .3mm

Then it is time to overclock...good luck!

Maxx~ Where did you get that info on a 26mb/3sec write time for IBM? What model/setup? What model Cheetah vs. what model IBM? SCSI is my preference and I haven't seen that comparison yet.

MafMax read the user reviews on the SysOpt main page. Someone did some extensive bench marking between his cheeta and his new IBM. Four different reviews on the drive give it a 4-star rating (out of 5). Oh and cobain that **** you posted is just plain stupid. Three viedo cards, 8-16 hard drives, a Zip, SuperDisk, and a Jaz. Just plain stupid. If your not going to put something that sounds at least half intellagent then don't post anything. Go and read something before you post.

Maxx~Oh, my mistake. I thought that you would be comparing apples to apples (same generation drives). Try comparing the Cheetah 18LP (3rd generation 10K RPM) to the 9LZX (3rd generation 10K RPM) and see what the results are. All of the refs that you give compare a 2nd gen. Seagate to the latest IBM drive. Don't fall into the hype trap that ALWAYS says X is better because it beats Y when the tests are not even.
Thats like saying the PIII beats the K6-2, well, duhhhhh.

Mad your right. I don't know jack about hard drives. But I was just telling you where i got my info. Anyway wasn't the original K6 made to compete with the Pentium. The K6-2 uses the same core ( non-CTX) as the original K6. The only difference is the K6-2 had added 3D instructions ( Hence 3D NOW!) It is only now that the K6-3 is competeing with the pentiumII due to its use of Tri Level Cache disign. I can't wait for the K7 to come out and smoke everything but even then it won't be truly fair because the PIII is only a PII with the 3D instructions so it will once again be a X vs Y only this time AMD will have the upper hand. Hopefully.
Oh and 8-Ball and Elmo. Before you try to solve my problems you need to get help on your split personallity. Post something of relavence sometime too, it helps to keep people from getting pissed off.
