Can I run an AMD K6-2 300 at 400MHz?
I have an AMD K6-2 300 running at 350. But when I try to put it to 400 it juts won't work. Is there something that AMD did to prevent me from going higher? Do I have to change the voltage or something?
thanx in advance

Hi again. 100 Mhz is pushing it for an AMD all i could get out of mine was 44 ( 366 @ 400 ) It really depends on what kinda motherboard and other stuff you have. The CPU can only take so much normally about 40-50 Mhz ( aside from celeron's ) is all you can ask for. I had to up the voltage .1v to get to 400 ( 2.2 to 2.3 ) but when you do that MAKE SURE YOU HAVE SOME BAD *** COOLING. I know mine is running hot with a heatsink fan combo case fan and a 3` brushless blower also sometimes you vedio card and hard drive controlers can't take higher bus speeds also PC100 ram is a good idea. Good Luck ,and cool deeply my friends

If you run it at 350 without a problem try 380 (4 x 95) or if it can take the 112 bus try 3.5 x 112
Im running my K6-2 300 at 392 for about 30 hrs now no problems.2.4v cas-2 ram down to cas-3 and mode 4 drive down to mode 3
everything is noticably faster than 350 and 380.400mhz I could never get it stable...

woah 100!?!?! Can you say BOOM!!! There goes your CPU you gotta chill and don't expect a hundred from your chip.

Hey DRE, I once did overclock a cpu by 146MHz. But it was an Intel chip. And I was using a very much modified P2 cooling system. We put it from 120 to 266. We also had one of those little things you buy for you car. The things that you run a thermostat outside the car and inside it shows the ouside temperature on a little LCD screen. We used that on the CPU. And we had 2 fans. So it worked. But I'm not sure about the overclockability of the K6-2. But I'm sure with the right equipment I could get that thing going an extra 100MHz.

i am running k62 300 at 400 epox em mobo potentiomiter derived 2.64 volts and some of those radio shack blowers aavid heat sink it is stable and quick i will be getting a k6-111 soon hopefully the 450 will make 550 on this board i will be happy with 500 though as on chip cache full speed 256 k will be a great performer in its own right.

Well I didn't say you can't do it.. you probably can, but you're pushing too hard for that. you need mad cooling system bro. but hey if you can do it, im proud of ya
cya around!

Hello everyone!
I guess my problem is not excatly the same as yours, but maybe u are able to help me anyway. I have an AMD 300 k6-2 with a Aopen ax59pro motherboard. Right now I am running my computer at 300, because I don't have other opportunities. Everytime I try to clock my cpu, I get a "windows protection error". How do I avoid that problem. I was guessing u guys had an idea of what I could do?!?!
Is it my Windows98, or maybe a bad bios configuration. I have tried many things, so I would be very glad if someone can help me.

sensei windows protection error usually means not enough voltage im on my second k62 this new one a 400 that runs at 498 i have found on both the other a 300 that runs 400 that the sweet spot for voltage is between 2.6 and 2.7 if you can fine tune voltage it will work, win protection, blue screens, and lots of faults, mean voltage isnt high enough complete boots with freezing alittle to high, also keep in mind you should max out your cooling before doing this as poor cooling wont even get htis far.

sensie got to AMD's website you have to d/l a patch for windows if your useing an AMD over 350 mhz
-
I don't think u can get a patch when u run amd at 350. I am using win98, and all the error should have been fixed. U can't install the patch unless u are using an older version of win95!

correct sensei, Maxx still hasn't caught on about that.
On your errors, as was stated, try more volts. If you are still having errors, turn your memory timings down a tad and try it.

I have a 503+ board running at 2.7 volts with my amd k2-300 overclocked to 400 mhz (100x4) I run cpuidle and have a fan with heatsink compound. so far it runs great with my oc'd viper 550 (125/110) and my fireport 40 scsi card in my agp and pci slots respectively.
I use Incync pc-100 (cas3?) RAM
