SOYO SY6BA+ - anyway to to chg core voltage?
I cannot o/c my 300 to 100x4.5. Systems does OK POST, Fireport BIOS starts OK, system seems to start loading windows but hangs on the windows startup screen. 83x4.5=376mhz runs OK for days.
From reading this post, it seems a succesful trick is to increase the core voltage to 2.1 volts. Unfortunately the SOYO board does not allow changing the voltage.
Is there anyway to change the voltage on the SOYO or do I have to buy an ABIT mb?
Thanks in advance for your help... Ralph

I just ordered the same MB and processor. Still waiting for it to arrive.
You can change the core voltage.
Go to this web site:
http://www.bunt.com/%7Ejcoon/celeron/voltage1.htm This page has pictures and a chart for different voltage settings.
or Tom's hardware page:
http://www.tomshardware.com
It requires putting tape, or liquid tape (available from most electronic stores), on some of the Celeron pins. My friend has done this with an Intel MB he picked out of a PC vendor's scrap box for $20...he's had no problems.
Let me know how it goes if you decide to jump off the cliff for 450mhz.

My second celeron runs ok at 450mhz using 1.98v core voltage.

I ordered another celeron 300A (they are so cheap) and this one runs great at 100x4.5 on my Soyo SYS6BA+ board, with no changes to the core voltage - still running at 1.98 volts.
CPU runs at 32-33 degrees celsius, and has been on for 24 hours now, with no problems.
Even paying for two 300a's is cheaper than buying a PII 450.
BTW both chips are have the Costa Rica labeling.
Goo Luck to all... Ralph

I have the same motherboard.
The retail Celeron I ordered has been running great at 464Mhz at 2.0 volts. Ran Quake II for 6 hours yesterday. Ran UnReal for 4 hours last night.
Temp goes up to 91 degrees F when running these games, otherwise it stays at 86-89 degrees running Windows apps.
If you need some bios settings to help get to a stable 464Mhz, let me know and I'll pass along my settings. I did upgrade to the latest bios and that helped.
It will do 504 with just the video card...whooo, lot of good that is.

Latest Celeron runs at 504Mhz no probs.
Soyo 6BA+ board. 2.0 volts

An update on my second celeron 300a that would only o/c to 375Mhz...
Purchased an ABIT BX6-Rev 2, and have succesfully o/c to 450Mhz by increasing the core voltage to 2.2 volts. Machine is super stable, running 24/7 (runs wingate to allow my 2 machines to access the net via my ADSL connection - talking about ADSL, it is really neat!
Using WATERFALL PRO to keep CPU temp at 90 degrees avg.
