    Celeron in Abit BX6

    Could someone please tell me if a Celeron 300 will work in my Abit BX6 and if it can be OC to 400. I am new here so if this question was asked before please forgive me Thanks in advance. Lee

    If you haven't bought your parts yet, consider BX6 Revision 2 or BH6. BX6 is ok as long as you have the latest BIOS, but my local retailer stock does not have the celeron retainer included with BX6-only P2 retainer.

    There's a big difference between Celeron 300 and 300a. The "a" has built in L2 128 L2 cache. If you find a Celeron that's not multiplier lock, maybe it will go 400. Most Celeron 300/300a are lock at 4.5 so if you're lucky it will be 450.

    Check out the guides and other articles in the Sysopt Home page. Good Luck.

    Isos, I have Rev. BX-1.40, is this the latest BIOS?

    If not, how tricky is it to download the latest version? I have a Celeron 300A running at 450 mHz.

    Thanks.

    The latest BIOS are found in here

    abit-usa.com/html/download.htm

    Chas, I'm not sure what BX-1.40 stand for. It sounds like the version of the disk.

    The BIOS version can be determine when you first turn on your computer. The bottom has this BIOS ID number. Last two letter identifies the revision.

    The latest are:
    BX6 = JL dated 2/12/99
    BX6 R2 = JH dated 2/12/99

    Please make sure that you're using the correct BIOS. BX6 IS DIFFERENT from BX6 Revision 2!

    An engineer from another manufacturer told me that the best way to flash any bios is to use the Flash Utility recommended by the manufacturer for the particular BIOS and remove all devices except HD, Floppy & PCI Video Card (Some AGP card does not respond well to the FLASH utility according to the engineer from PCCHIPS)

    If you're not having any problem running your Celeron 300 @450, why would you flash your BIOS? It could render your system inoperable...just a thought.

    Good Luck!
