COOL! tell me if I did the right thing please
OK, after reading all your posts about OC a 300a, I was told it will be hard to find an older 300a (98).
I went to fry's and I think I got lucky.
After bugging the guys at FRY's I noticed that the display model was a Costa Rica week 43. I asked to buy the display. When checking out, they idiot crabbed another from the crib and I got a costa rica 9841 SL2WM.
Will this be cool! or should I go back and get the week 43?
Also on the face of the card in the upper right corner is the 9841 and there is a symbol next to it. It kinda looks like a 4 leaf clover in an "eye" shape. Is this the clover symbol or the compeg?
So, what is your opinion on my chances with this chip?
Thanks,
Bob

The symbol is the "clover" for the PCB manufacturer. Since Fry's has a 15 day return policy on the CPU just try it out!
First try 4.5 x 100 at 2.0v, 2.05x...
you might get lucky the first time out. Many costa rica chips do 4.5 x 100 @ 2.0v.
Be sure to get a good fan/heatsink and use thermal goo.

Thanks for the reply. I cant wait to get my BX6-2 board tomorrow and try it out.
BTW, I am pretty sure this FRY's has more sl2wm's. Anyone want one? I would be glad to pick one up for people that live near me.

Ah O, now I am worried!
I think I read it wrong.
On the face of the CPU board in the upper right corner it says 9841. I assumed that was the year and week.
However, on the back the white label says
08471162 -SL2WM. Does this mean it is a week 47?
If so, I saw one of the treads that said week 47 didnt over clock too well. I went to AGN and found many 0847's overclock but the digits were higher like 08471500.
Well, I guess I'll just have to try it out tomorrow when I get the mother board and pc100 memory.
Wish me luck!
I'll let everyone know.

don't worry about it{the end numbers.
The other numbers you read were when it was made{the parts} and the other numbers{inside} is when it was boxed.

My first 300a did not boot when set to 100x4.5 but the one I just got this week (also a Costa Rica chip) runs great on my Soyo SYS6BA+ board running at 1.98 volts.
