celeron 300a at 450 need to make it more stable
Hi, I have an abit bx6 64meg pc100ram celeron 300a costa rica, trident agp ans a west dig HD. I get to 450 ok but system labors esp HD when running at 600x800...I reloaded win95 it helped a bit and lowered my PIO to 3 . Any suggestions to improve my O/C will be appreciated......

Have u upped the voltage at all? But do it in .5 increments to find the best setting for you.
Setting to pio3 does lower performance and should not be necessary with a 100 bus speed.
If it is a udma hd then check dma in device manager..u will see a difference! And set the hd to auto in the bios.
Also, how is your cooling. Do u have a case fan blowing in and is the power supply fan blowing out? And do u have heatsink compound between the cpu and heatsink?
You sound like u are close..with some tweaking u should be there.

Hi Blaze,
Thanks for the reply, my powersupply blows out,my lower front fan blows in and my cpu fan has a very thin layer of therm grease and I have a cpu fan on a metal mount blowing across the right front on the cpu then out the PS fan ..I cannot boot to windows at all unless I use 2.2 volts....Is it ok to use 2.3v? Also can that cas L2 latency program I have fead about help...my L2 latency is currently 5...My malay 300a runs fine at 2.0v but this costa rica one is having a harder time....Thanks
-
2.3v should be fine. Many on the net run their 300a systems at that. But do be sure that the compound is applied correctly. Incorrectly can cause the heat to stay in the cpu..which u don't want. But some 300a's have to use 2.3v to be stable..but not many..u may
have one of those.
I am not familiar with that program u mentioned. But your cas latency time should be set to either 2 or 3..depending on your ram. 5? I didn't know that was possible..or did I misunderstand you?
And just in case..have these in yur bios..
cpu L1 cache:enabled
cpu L2 cache:enabled
cpu L2 cache checking:disabled(or enabled,try both)
And what week is your costa rica? I have had no problems with weeks 46,44 and 43 and all are using 2.1v or less.
You will get there yet!

My OEM Costa Rica is week 0847 clover...I will try it at 2.3v and double check the grease.
Also my retail malay 300a runs at 450 w/2.0volts so it appears this cpu will need to be goosed a bit..........Thanks!
-
oh..I hve heard that most who have week 47 can not reach 450. For whatever reasons I guess it has something to do with the quality..I'm not sure.
But..that doesn't mean u will not get to 450.
Do post back any results..and maybe we can think of something else.

hey guys...i was just curious...i just got a 300a, it's a costa, week 45. sl32a.
i paid a little bit to have it tested...supposedly stable at 2.05 to 2.1 v.
i believe the place, but just was wondering what other people successes were with week 45's.
i was hoping to get my hands on a malay...but doesn't seem likely...
mushkin i think has malay's...maybe another place...i called and ask...but there is no guarantee...just wish i had bought a couple back then when i was thinking bout it...heh

I have had 100% success with weeks 44 and 43 but I have not had any week 45's. But I would guess they should be fine. Both weeks 44 and 43 do 464 easily with either 2.05 or 2.1v.
I don't go higher that that though. That's not to say u can.
I do have one retail malay week 41 left. I may eventually sell it.
Check to see if u have any computer shows coming up. You can get lucky there!

Well, so far so good...My latest additon a retail cel 300a malay clover week 44 did the 450 dance..at 2.0 volts. That makes two out of three so far. My Oem costa rica will go back in for another try. This time I will try running it with the L2 ECC checking disabled
or turn off the L2 completely..Still needs at least 2.2v...The two that make 450 are on retail sink/fans ..they run quake demo and Final reality bench no problem....should I just change the thermal compound on them to the radio shack heatsink grease or leave them as is? Thanks for all the info everyone!!

breeze,
You can try it like it is. But if it gives u trouble then u know what to do.
But it is done carefully. Go here to see how
http://www.agnhardware.com/index.cfm...t.cfm?revid=84
But again I wouldn't mess with it unless you start having problems with it.
seeya..
