Can't overclock 300A at all, HELP!!

I just bought an OEM 300A (costa rica) and an ABIT BH6 (standard oc materials). My RAM is Seimens CAS2 64 MEG. I also have an IBM 10.1 GIG drive running at 7200 rpm. I have tried to overclock but with very little success. I have tried each bus speed up to 100MHZ. 374 is pretty stable but the sound is messed up a bit (Sound blaster PCI 128. No matter what I set for voltage or any other settings, I just cant do it. I also have a peltier cooler with three fans and a case fan. The highest temp I have recorded with Motherboard Monitor is 93 degrees. Did I just get unlucky? Thanks in advance!!!

    Hey Martin,

I am using thermal grease. Another thing I have heard is to make an adjustment to the hard drives. PIO or something. Let me know.
    Thanks again.

When u set the bus-speed to 75 or to 83.3 u have to set the PIO-Mode to 3. The IBM hd's have big problems with the high bus-speeds.
I've got two IBM's too and i had to set PIO-Mode 3 too. Try setting the PIO-Mode to 3 and let me know what happens.

If you try to set all different voltages
and other settings, you should be able
to get it up to 450mhz. I have the same
board and cpu with success but my motherboard temp is about 78degrees F. I just have a dual
cpu cooling fan with no thermal compound at
all. check the circulation of your computer
case. Heat may be the problem.

Ok guys here is what has happened. I still cannot get 450 but 374 is rock solid. I can get 450 for a little while on the Q2 demo but it locks up and restarts itself. I have since purchased a new fan to suck hot air out directly under the CPU. When that brought it down to 86 constantly I decided to take the sides off. I also shoved a house fan pointed at the CPU and now do not run above 82 degrees. Still, no 450. Thanks for your suggestions and any more help!!!!

here's what I have as cpu settings in the soft menu II. cpu operating speed is user defined. turbo frequency is disabled. external clock is 100mhz. multiplier is 4.5.
sel100/66 signal is high. agp clk/cpu clk is 2/3. cpu power supply is user defined at 2.2v. try this a report back.

    Hi
Try going back to who ever you bought the memory chips from and try to get some pc-100 rated at 6ns or faster. with the bh6 sometimes 8ns will not do it at 450. also try switching mem slots. some mobo's are sensitive. (set cas to 3 in bios) turn off error checking for L2 cache. and make sure bios is set to non-ecc memory.
    good luck

The RAM I bought is Siemens CAS2 8NS (or so I was told). I don't think that this 64 MB chip should be the problem. Still I played with it. I moved slots and adjusted ECC checking and the such, but still no 450

Ok , Roche , apart ur HD , u should go over to check ur Siemens ram , trust me , change it to others , I know a few brands here that had no prob with the ABIT BH6 , try the brand marked on the chip as MT or get a mitsubshi ram . I dunno y ,dun ask me technical stuff ,but i can succesfully run 2 pc-100 64mb at any slot combination despite i read some where that ABIT got prob with 2x64mb pc-100 ram .... But LGS i really can't get it to run at 2x64

I flashed my bios back to the fu..then to the hn and I did it threee times in a row forit to take..Now i have all the hn volt settings and upgrades.then I used the settings that guy said to use and went with 2.4 volts..so far 463.9 and incredable wintune98 runs at 71 and 33 with a thermal silicone from a locl electronics place and a fan on the back held on with snap ties..And a fan blowing on the side of the chip and the side of the case open..I' going to run this thing till it blows up. But that won't happen. It kicks the **** out of my friends 450p2 and my other friends p2400 good luck man
