    Overclock K6-2 300mgz w/ amptron 9900 MB

    I have a 300mgz K6-2, Amptron 9900 MB.
I overclocked it to 333 and then 350.
Both were very unstable. Any suggestions?
    Thanx!

I have a K6-2/300 on a FIC503+ mb. I have overclocked it to 350 (3.5x100) and to 336 (3x112). I've found that I need to up the voltage a notch or two. From 2.2v to 2.3v or even 2.4v. As long as you have a good (& big) heatsink/fan you should have no problem upping the voltage. I have a PentiumPro heatsink w/ball bearing fan and using thermal paste (DEFINITELY USE THERMAL PASTE!).

BTW, I've found that 336 (with a bus speed of 112mhz) is slightly faster than 350 (with a 100mhz bus).

I have the Amptron 9900 and upgraded the bios revision off Amptron's site (http://www.amptron.com/html/main_fr.htm)and have an AMD K2-300. I used thermal heatsink grease, the bios update, & the update patch on AMD's site to fix the I/O error on boot up for 350Mhz+ intermitant loop error. I was sucessful at overclocking to 350Mhz with my K2-300 (100 x 3.0) w/ a 2.2v and a double fan on the heatsink. Questions? E-mail me @ goerbig@geocities.com

Used to have this board. Not a very good board for overclocking. FIC 503+ is a much better board.

I have the 9900 w/ AMD 350 Mhz chip. You can't get a higher bus speed than 100 of course, and you can't get 2.3 or 2.4 volts. But I have my 350 running stable at 428 only with thermal compound, extra 3" fan, and CPUidle.exe. However, I have to run it at 2.5 volts. That is still within 15%, so it's fine.
