What is a safe temp?
Hi guys,
I just want to know what is a sage temp to overclock a 300A to 450 MHZ. I currently have a peltier cooler, a fan in the front of the case pulling air in, the power supply is sucking air out and a new fan placed directly under the CPU sucking hot air out also(that one made a 5 degree difference itself). I am currently running oc'ed (374)at 87 degrees. Opinions needed. Thanks!!

87 degrees F. is cool enough! These devices are safe at temps 'way beyond 100F. Your efforts will extend the life beyond the time you will have replaced it with a Pentium V!

Thanks Roy,
that was with both sides off the case but the top on. I have since put the sides on and taken the top off and the temp has risen to about 91. 450 still seems elusive. Any suggestions anyone????

I have a 300a retail. It came with a heatsink that looks like the Coolmaster one.The problem with mine is I can run for days at 450mhz with no problem, but with a certain game (AirWarrior 3) online (off line theirs no problem) the game will lock-up. So I took the thickgray matter between the cpu and heatsink and replaced it with some better thermal goo. Everything worked ok except the game online so I took the heatsink back off to find that only 2/3 of the cpu was in contact with the heatsink!!! On ferther review I noticed that the heatsink is warped. I have heard of this problem before, but I just can't find another heatsink to buy right now thats worth it. BTW at 450mhz the heatsink is barly warm at 2.05 volts. I hope this helps.

Steve,
Very interesting!!! I have the same setup and AW3 is my passion. I have a winmodem, which worked fine in my 166 system, but with this system, after I'm online for 1 - 5 mins the system will restart by itself. I had originally suffered lockups when online as soon as I opened the browser, but reloading the 56-flex drivers cured that. I had tried other modem drivers and another winmodem, but no luck. I can run at 450 for days, but try to go online I'm running Win98 and the only success I've had online was with a Sierra 28.8 ISA modem.
