Rambus memory upgrade problem

Sony PCV-RX370DS, Chipset Intel 2530 r2. Came with 2X64MB memory (Samsung), I added 2X128MB(Samsung). Booted up fine, then locked up, like power switch wouldn't even work. With all four memory chips installed, Norton finds a memory error. If I install just either of the two sets, 64MB or 128MB, and the two CRIMMS, it finds no errors. Any solutions besides living with 256K? Still trying to reach Sony tech support. Maybe today!

How fast are all your memory cards? Sometimes if you have pc-100 along with pc-133 it either doesn't read the old mem, or locks up pretty bad. If your old stuff is pc 100, and your new stuff is pc133 MHz, I would suggest that you return your new memory and buy pc 100 MHz cards.

I was under the impression we were talking about RDRAM. Sgraffito is right about one thing. if it is RDRAM than make sure you have all PC600 or all PC800 chips.

All chips are PC800. According to the Samsung datasheets, the total difference between the two sets of chips are: the number of memory modules of course, and the 64MB are 2nd generation, while the 128MB are 3rd generation. Reached Sony. After much discussion they answered "duh". Said they had never had the problem before. Machine seems to be running fine on the new 128MB and two CRIMMS. Thanks for the responses.

Duh myself. Forgot to ask. Ask Sony what was the model of the motherboard. Another duh, only could find code name "YODA". May the force be with me. I would appreciate any help as to where to look for maker and model number. Thinking of contacting MB maker about problem. In addition, anyone know of a site where I could download another memory checker?
