Abit BX6, CL SB Live, CL Riva TNT

Okay, this is not a ***** its just to help some peeps that may have been having trouble. THIS LAYOUT DOES NOT WORK, this combination of hardwar produces the buggyest, crash prone set up you have ever seen. In some way, the combination of these 3 pieces of hard ware causes big conflicts. I switched to an Asus P2B and instantly all my problems with this game and all others just vanished. The BX6 is a nice board, just dont use it with those 2 pieces of hardware, whatever u do.

Hope this helps someone, cuz i pull my hair out for 3 months on this one.

I think he must be talking about the combination of all 3 components. I am using the BX6 (Rev. 1), CL Riva TNT, and a cheapie Yamaha PCI sound card with absolutly no probs.

Guess this rules out the SB Live as my next hardware purchase!

    Chuck,

Roner is correct, im talking about the total package. I have heard that other people have had some success with the CL TNT on this board, and some with the CL Live. But none with both.

Sound like an okay deal, old graphics cards just dont go for much and I have heard that the ASUS TNT is da bomb of TNT's.

Thanks for the heads up, DW. I have a Celeron 300A (running at 450), an Abit BX6 mobo, and a CL Audio Ensonic PCI sound card.

I was thinking about upgrading my video from ATI Xpert@play to the Asus V3400 but I'm concerned now.

Did the set-up you mentioned with a different sound card work okay or is it some sort of three way interaction? Should I just avoid getting a TNT card with my set up?

I can get the Asus V3400 for $89 + my ATI card. Is this a good deal?

    Any helps appreciated.

I have an ABTI BX6 R2, CL RIVA TNT, CL SB Live, and the **** computer only boots 50% of the time. I get the following beep codes: 1 long, 3 short. I have to cycle power a few times before the thing will boot. Apparently some problems allocating resources. It also happens with a CL Voodoo Banshee. Both video cards are AGP.
Should I drop the CL video cards or the ABIT MB?

    Mallen,

The beep code indicates Video Failure.
I would lean towards trashing the MB. As well received this board is, I see an unusual number of people posting for help who have the BH/BX6, I find this slightly suspect in lieu of the rave reviews.

Am certain many of the avid Overclockers who own these MB's will disagree with me but there are other stable boards that can be push the CPU's to their limits.

You shouldn't have put up with these symtoms where half of the things work half of the time or not at all.

Hardware compatability on a Win98 system should be most nearly nonexistent.

    On another note...

    Thanks dWulf.
I've been trying to help someone with a BH6 with CL TNT and SBLive who's been having major conflicts and it has been taking my head for a spin. Most of the conflicts are cleared up, however, after reading your post I realize system may never be stable.

I got that exact combo. It boots every time and works fine....except for the fact that on Q2 and other games that use the Q2 engine (Halflife). It freezes up on first couple frames if i run it OpenGL OR fullscreen (even on software). After updatin everything's drivers Im still not gettin any results.
So your sayin gettin a new Asus Mobo will solve all this?

I have been using the BX6, CL TNT, SB Live, Adaptec 2940UW and a 3com 905tx in my personal system for about 3-4 months and have not had any problems out of it. Processor is a 300MHz SL2W8 oc to 468MHz w/128 of CAS 2 PC100 SDRAM. I have also ran the same config with a BH6 and BX6-R2.

Would be interested in hearing what the "big conflicts" are that you found.

    Take care,
    Dan

    I second what Dan said!

I've built 4PC's with the same combo, and the only prob I've had is with the drivers for the TNT and my V2's not liking the IE5 upgrade! That even has a fix!

I think you must be lookin in the wrong direction or maybe you just had bad mb's, because this is the most stable combo I've ever seen!

I've also got exaclty the same config, one strange thing though is that whenever i startup the abit hardware monitoring program is stopped my cpu fan and warns of the temp!

Stall have to play with the settings some more.

I have a abit BX6_2, a Cel 366 oc'ed to 458,a CL TNT and a CL Live. And it works great. NO lockups, just the ushall little bugs here and there that we all see with ANY combo.Maybe its your RAM or HDD, If you run generic crappy ram and OC you'r asking for a crash.

I have a BX6 with celeron at 102 bus speed. I first bought the cl banshee and it would lock up a lot of games or not load right (maybe too hot). I returned it and got the cl TNT. Still I couldn't run some game and caused me to exhange a couple. Later I found (real pizzed at Window98 & CL) the older card left little marker files and the games were getting confused whether they were loading for directx or voodoo. Now it runs fine after I took it out.
