Go with what works and complain to Viking in the meantime. Maybe they can offer a solution.

Need modem driver help!!!
I am running a dual boot W2K server and Win98 system. For some reason neither operating system will except the provided driver for my modem. I have a Viking Components 56k external. Windows 98 only works with the 56000 ext v90 driver, and W2K only works with the 56k Rockwell driver. No matter what driver I install the system gives me that "driver not written for this hardware" message. If I install anything other than the drivers listed above, I get no response from the modem at all. I got my true drivers direct from Viking Components and they still wont work. I recently upgraded my system to Tbird 850 and a MSI K7T Turbo. I never had this problem with my K6-450 and VA503+ setup. Any suggestions?

Where's the problem? The modem works, use the standard drivers, I usually do, couldn't be bothered with the proprietors ones.
I have found the Standard drivers work just as well, unless your modem has some special functionality only supported in the manufacturers drivers.

The basic reason why I am trying to correct this is because I frequently have connection problems with my isp and I wanted to eliminate this scapegoat that they are bound to use as soon as I tell them about the drivers. Bellsouth Customer Service=0
