big problem with mbr or something HELP PLEASE.

My computer was running fine until I tried to install this game(XGames Pro Boarder). It would get ready to install but it would sit at 100% on the preparing install wizard. Then the blue error screen comes up and says something about a hard drive error.
I then tried loading it through Windows 98SE and it froze loading the game. So then I reset it and it gave me this error, so I turned it off for like 10 seconds then back on and it loaded fine. So I tried to install the game again(stupid me) and it did the same thing but this time it never started up. Pretty much everything is brand new. It is an AMD Thunderbird 1.2GHZ cpu and the motherboard is the 817LMR Amptron board, I have 128Mb of DDR Ram, a 50X CDROM, a 300W Power Supply, onboard modem sound and LAN.

When I try these following programs on the boot disk I get the following errors: format - CANNOT READ HARD DRIVE, fdisk - ERROR READING FIXED DISK, fdisk/mbr - THE MASTER BOOT CODE HAS NOT BEEN UPDATED, mbrwork - (couldnt detect hard drive for some reason)

I am completely lost can anyone help me?

Is the drive being detected properly in BIOS?? If BIOS can't detect it, then it's probably a hardware problem. (bad drive, controller, cable, etc.)

If it is detected in BIOS, but you can't run format, fdisk, etc. then you will probably need to do a low level format (check drive manufacturer's website - most of them have a downloadable utility available to run diagnostics on the drive, and will also run a low level format, if needed.)
