Whats up with this! Do I have dos or not? Does it come with new system?

    Plugged in everything new>

Maxtor 60 gig HD (did not come with any disc)

    Soyo Mobo K7VTA-B

Everything seems to be ok as far as I can see in setup. I get c:/ and A:/ promt.

When I type in C:/ DIR it says I have ms dos installed, however there is no bytes?

I started to try and setup dos but it would not alow me?

It says it is there,I could not get past first disc.

Fdisc, format do not work either. Do i need to format a new hard drive? and what about this screwy dos thing?

do i need to clear the bios, and will it go back to original settings?

    Thanks for reply's

It seems like your HD was formatted and has system files (IO.SYS, MSDOS.SYS and COMMAND.COM) transferred on it. You cann't either format nor fdisk cause FORMAT.COM and FDISK.EXE aren't there. If you have original bootable Windows98 diskette or CD-ROM, boot from it then set up whatever you like.

    Best Regards ...

I will be installing Win 95 and then upgrade to ME.

I see now I can boot up with startup disk from win me for cd drivers!

The only problem is the System wont fire up now! I turned it off and it wont crank back up? Is there a safty feature or something ?

What is the hottest temp a cpu should run at?

    It is a T-BIRD 900

    Thanks guy's

Won't fire up? you mean it won't boot at all? check all your connections I guess. Also, something that may make things easier (so you don't need to boot from the floppy to get cd support):

    boot to setup floppy disk
    type the following:
    copy oakcdrom.sys c: <enter>
    d: <enter>
    copy mscdex.exe c: <enter>
    edit c:\config.sys <enter>
    device=c akcdrom.sys /d:cd1
    <alt-f>, x, <enter>
    edit c:\autoexec.bat
    c:\mscdex.exe /d:cd1
    <alt-f>, x, <enter>

reboot, and you should have cd support. I know it seems like a lot of steps, but it's not that complicated, actually. You may want to do that after you get your pc to boot alright
