Modem doesn't re-initiate
This is an odd problem that just started on it's own. When starting my login software the modem doesn't recognize the phone line connection? Not sure if I can explain right but the modem won't initiate unless I unplug the phone jack and reconnect it. Then the modem initiates and I connect. When I've had the volume up (on modem) it's like dead air until I do the phone jack thing, then voila! Any suggestions? Don't have much knowledge of modems.
Thanks

Thanks Doc
I'm checking with USR now.
Let you know what happens.

Well, it's as simple as this.
A lightening storm in the area fried the chip. I used to have the phone jack going through my UPS, but, when I had some other connection problems I must have plugged directly to the incoming jack.
The upside of all this is that USR is going to replace the modem anyway! This is good.
I'll definitely run through the UPS from now on or at least disconnect the jack during bad weather
