    Mixing 72pin & 168pin RAM with 430vx chipset

Since placing 2 x 72 pin RAM chips in my 200MMX, along with the 1 x 32MB RAM 168 pin the computer only beeps at me, even though I have removed the 2 X 72 pin RAM Chips.
I have since been told that the INTEL 430VX chipset on the Mobo cannot handle 2 different types of RAM. What can I do, have i cooked the Mobo??
I get no POST screen, only what seems to be evenly spaced "memory" beeps, that just go on & on & on .....
    Any Ideas???? Thanxs tilio

You can't use EDO and SDRAM simultaneously. Trying to do so may result in the SDRAM being burned out.

What kind of DIMM are you using? EDO? SDRAM?

Did you set the DIMM voltage correctly? SDRAM DIMMS use 3.3V. EDO DIMMS either use 5V or 3.3V, depending on the chips. If you use 5V on an SDRAM DIMM or a 3.3V EDO DIMM, then you may have fried your memory.

Sometimes the beeps indicate a problem with the display adaptor. They are usualy a series of short beeps repeated. It's possibile that the video card was disturbed when you installed and removed the ram. AGP cards seem particularly sensitive.
    Remove and reinstall the card!
    Hope that's it!
I'm sure you have tried the same on the ram.
It's also a posibility that the DIMM may have been damaged. I have heard that using the two types of memory together exposes the 3.3V. DIMM to 5V. signals. Usually this does not result in instant destruction, but it will shorten the life of the DIMM.

My 2nd pc use the 430vx chipset. And yes you can mix the ram types. Using the Dimns require a jumper setting to change the voltage.

What happens if you put the simms back in?

What happens if you put the simms back in by themselves?
