    Scan Disc Message

When we try to do a scan disc, the message keeps coming up that there may be a windows running in background that keeps the scan stopping. How do we find what is running in the background? We have started from a shutdown mode, deleted programs we think might be running, to no avail. We are tired of a thorough scan disc taking 2 days to do for our system. Any answers?

Have you tried booting in to "Safe-Mode" and running Scandisk? Just press F8 at boot screen and select "Safe-Mode"

There are 2 ways that I know, the safest way is to run ScanDisk in "Safe Mode". (In "Safe Mode", only the minimum drivers are loaded and running.)

The way I usually run it is in Windows, but before running Scan Disk or installing a new program, I use a program called "End It All". "End It All" will shut down everything that isn't neccessary in the background. If you want to download "End It All", you'll find it here: http://www.zdnet.com/downloads/stori...,,0011NB,.html

    Hey NDC --

Lately I've run into a couple of computers that F8 didn't work on for "Safe Mode". On one computer I ran into, it was the Escape key, another it was the CTL key, and the third one was the F1 key during start-up!
